A shocking suspected poisoning incident has been reported from Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district, where a newlywed woman allegedly mixed rat poison into food prepared for her husband and three members of his family just days after their wedding. Police have arrested the bride and another woman in connection with the incident, officials said on Sunday.

The incident reportedly took place in Velhane village in Parola taluka. According to officials, the couple married on October 7, and the alleged poisoning occurred on October 9, during the wedding celebrations.

Rat Poison Allegedly Mixed Into Food

According to the police, the bride allegedly mixed rat poison into food prepared for her husband and his family members. After consuming the food, members of the family reportedly developed health complications.

The family elders were subsequently admitted to a government hospital in Dhule district for treatment. The incident came to light after the affected family members fell ill, prompting police to investigate the suspected poisoning.

Two Women Arrested While Allegedly Attempting to Flee

Police said the bride allegedly left the house with another woman after the incident, taking jewellery and money received during the wedding.

Following information about the suspected poisoning, police launched an investigation and intensified efforts to trace the two women. They were eventually detained near Nimgul village in Dhule district while allegedly attempting to flee.

The accused were identified as Suman Subhash Sahni, the bride, and Aarti Suryaksh Patel, the other woman. Both were reportedly from Jharkhand, according to the information provided by officials.

Family and Local Residents Stage Protest

The incident sparked anger among the affected family members and local residents. A group gathered outside the police station and blocked a road, demanding the arrest of the accused and appropriate legal action.

Police subsequently took action against the two women and began collecting evidence to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the alleged poisoning.

Police Investigation Underway

Preliminary reports indicate that the groom had allegedly paid ₹2.5 lakh to marry Suman. Police are investigating the circumstances of the marriage, the alleged payment, the suspected poisoning and the claims regarding the jewellery and cash.

Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses. The allegations against both women remain subject to the ongoing police investigation and the legal process.
