Hyderabad: The death of Aishwarya, a newly married woman who was undergoing treatment at Medicover Hospital in Secunderabad, has triggered allegations of medical negligence, with her family demanding a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
According to the family, Aishwarya, a 28-year-old advocate who had been married only a month earlier, was admitted to the hospital on October 6 for treatment of a kidney stone reportedly measuring 2 mm. Her relatives claimed that she was initially expected to be discharged the following day. However, her condition allegedly deteriorated during treatment, and she was subsequently shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). She later died, leaving her family and colleagues in shock.
Family Questions Treatment and Medical Decisions
The deceased’s relatives have raised serious questions about the treatment provided to Aishwarya and the medical decisions taken during her hospital stay. They questioned how a patient who had reportedly walked into the hospital for treatment of a small kidney stone could end up in critical condition and die.
The family has also questioned the reported decision to perform surgery for a 2 mm kidney stone, seeking clarity on whether the procedure was medically necessary and what complications, if any, occurred during the course of treatment. However, the appropriate treatment for a kidney stone depends on several clinical factors, including its location, associated obstruction, infection and the patient’s overall condition. The medical records would be necessary to determine whether the treatment was appropriate in this case.
Allegations Over Hospital Bills
The family further alleged that they had paid approximately ₹7 lakh towards Aishwarya’s treatment but were subsequently asked to pay additional amounts. They have sought transparency regarding the hospital bills, the procedures performed and the expenses incurred during her treatment.
Relatives also expressed concern over the reported change in Aishwarya’s body colour before her death and questioned the explanations provided by the medical team. They have demanded that the hospital disclose the relevant medical details to the family in accordance with applicable rules.
Colleagues Demand Independent Inquiry
Aishwarya’s colleagues and legal associates have also expressed concern over the incident and called for an independent medical inquiry. They have urged the authorities to examine the treatment records, diagnostic reports, surgical details, medication administered and the sequence of events that led to her deterioration.
They have demanded that the investigation establish whether there were any lapses in diagnosis, treatment, post-operative care or emergency response. They have also called for accountability if any medical negligence is established through the inquiry.
Demand for Government Intervention
The family has appealed to the Telangana State Government and the Central Government to intervene and ensure a fair investigation. They have demanded strict legal action against those found responsible and called for stronger oversight of private hospitals, transparent billing practices and effective mechanisms for addressing patient complaints.
The incident has renewed concerns about patient safety, informed consent, communication between hospitals and families, and the need for transparent investigations into deaths occurring during medical treatment.
The family continues to seek answers and justice for Aishwarya, whose death has left her relatives and colleagues devastated.
Further investigation awaited: The allegations of medical negligence have not been independently established based on the information available. The cause of death and the appropriateness of the treatment can be determined only through examination of the medical records, relevant expert opinion and the findings of an impartial inquiry. The hospital management’s response to the allegations was not available at the time of writing.
