Hyderabad, April19:
Coriander cultivation brings good profits to farmers in Nashkal village of Vikarabad districtFarmers in Nashkal village of Parigi mandal in Vikarabad district have found a new trend in agriculture that is bringing them good profits. Cultivating coriander in low plots, these farmers are earning lakhs of rupees in just 28 to 35 days. With less investment and less area required, the farmers are reaping high profits, which is becoming a boon for them.
The demand for coriander in the Rabi season is increasing, and this crop is not eaten by monkeys and animals. This has made it a popular choice for farmers in the villages on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
In Nashkal village, around 30 farmers grow coriander every year in the months of March, April, and May, and each farmer is planting from one to eight acres. Last year, three brothers living in the village, Govarthan Reddy, Rajender Reddy, and Ananthara Reddy, grew coriander seeds in five acres each and earned Rs. 48 lakhs in 35 days. Another farmer, Ravi, planted his three acres of coriander and earned Rs. 3.75 lakhs per acre.
Coriander is mostly grown in Nashkal, Aluru, Chevella, Barkatpally, Gottimukkula, Dacharam, Rukkumpalli, Kankal, Thirugayapalli, Medipalli, and Parigi areas on the outskirts of Hyderabad city. Being close to the city of Hyderabad, the merchants of Shadnagar, Shamshabad, and Hyderabad go directly to the farmers and buy coriander and transport it to the cities.
The cost of cultivating coriander is low, with only Rs. 5 thousand required for seeds and fertilizers per acre, and Rs. 15 thousand per acre for pipes to set up rain drip. The drip works for more than three years, and it is possible to take coriander in 28 to 30 days. Even after harvesting, there is a possibility of planting a second crop in the same field.
