The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is set to undergo a restructuring process aimed at reducing its size, according to the central government. In order to facilitate this process, an 11-member committee has been established, with the Additional Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Secretary of ICAR serving as the chairman.

Of the 11 committee members, six are administrative officers who hold the rank of Joint Secretary. The ICAR, which is 94 years old, is a premier national organisation that oversees agricultural research and education in India.

The move to restructure and downsize the ICAR comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline and modernise the country’s agricultural sector. The committee is expected to submit its recommendations in the coming months, and it remains to be seen how these changes will impact the work and scope of the ICAR.
