Hyderabad ,June 22, 2023
Hyderabad is preparing to unveil another iconic landmark as Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao inaugurates the Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial on Thursday. Serving as a symbolic tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Telangana’s statehood, the memorial stands proudly on the banks of the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake in the heart of the city.
Named ‘Amara Deepam,’ this memorial marks the third significant addition to the surrounding area of the lake. Earlier, on April 14, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao unveiled a 125-feet statue of B.R. Ambedkar, followed by the inauguration of a new state secretariat on April 30. The Martyrs’ Memorial, situated in front of the secretariat, adds further allure to this popular tourist destination.

Similar to the statue and the new secretariat, the Martyrs’ Memorial was undertaken as a prestigious project by the KCR government.
The inauguration of the memorial serves as the culmination of the ten-year celebrations of the state formation day. The 21-day statewide festivities commenced on June 2.
Built next to Lumbini Park, the Martyrs’ Memorial takes the form of a lamp and has been constructed at a cost of Rs 177.50 crore. Spanning six floors in a pyramid shape, it occupies 3.29 acres of land allocated by the state government.
Crafted using 1,600 tonnes of stainless steel, the structure resembles an earthen lamp in an elliptical shape. It stands 26 meters tall on one side and 18 meters tall on the other, with the lamp glowing at a height of 45 meters above ground level.
The memorial includes two basements, each spanning an area of 1,06,993 sq ft, with a total parking capacity of 335 cars and 400 two-wheelers. Additionally, it features security facilities, lift lobbies, lounge areas, and an underground water storage tank with a capacity of three lakh liters.

The ground floor, spread over 28,707 sq ft, houses maintenance facilities, workshop areas, a cold storage room, a kitchen, and a souvenir room.
The first floor, covering an area of 10,656 sq ft, hosts a museum, a photo gallery, and an audiovisual room with a seating capacity of 70.
The second floor consists of a convention hall and lobby area, spanning 16,964 sq ft.
The third floor offers a seating area, a restaurant, and a viewing point across its 8,095 sq ft space.
Connected to the third floor, the mezzanine floor or fourth floor occupies 5,900 sq ft and houses a restaurant with a glass roof.
The fifth floor showcases ‘Amara Deepam,’ a 26-meter flame crafted from low carbon structural steel that will radiate a golden yellow glow. Finally, the sixth floor is designated for electro-mechanical services, including centralized air-conditioning and backup power generators.
The Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial, an architectural marvel, will stand as a testament to the valor and sacrifice of those who fought for the statehood, enhancing the splendor of Hussain Sagar lake and captivating visitors with its unique design and significance.
