English Becomes the World’s Most Spoken Language
In a recent revelation on Twitter, World of Statics, a renowned statistical research organization, unveiled the current ranking of the most spoken languages in the world. Sitting proudly at the top spot is the English language, boasting a staggering 1.132 billion speakers worldwide, which amounts to 113.2 crore people.
Chinese Mandarin claims a close second, with an impressive 1.117 billion speakers (111.7 crore people). Meanwhile, Hindi, one of India’s prominent languages, secures the third position with 615 million speakers (61.5 crore people).
The top-50 language list also showcases India’s linguistic diversity, with Bengali ranking 7th with a significant 265 million speakers (26.5 crore people). Notably, Telugu, another Indian language, claims the 16th position with 93 million speakers (9.3 crore people).
This data, compiled as of July 15, 2023, highlights the widespread global influence of English as a language of communication and connectivity among people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
