New Delhi, July 24: The Lok Sabha faced tumultuous scenes and was adjourned until Tuesday (July 25) due to unrelenting protests by the Congress-led opposition. The opposition demanded a response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the prevailing situation in Manipur.
When the house reconvened at 2:30 pm, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed the government’s readiness for a discussion on the Manipur crisis. Despite the government’s willingness, the opposition remained adamant, insisting on Prime Minister Modi’s response in the Lok Sabha.
Amit Shah, emphasizing the importance of the issue and the need for the nation to be aware of the sensitive situation in Manipur, urged the protesting opposition to allow the discussion to take place.
Surprisingly, the opposition persisted in their demand for Prime Minister Modi’s response on the Manipur issue in the Lok Sabha.
Even the Speaker, Om Birla, appealed to the opposition to permit the home minister to initiate the discussion on Manipur, as the Home Ministry is the nodal ministry responsible for the state’s affairs.
Speaker Birla pointed out that seeking the prime minister’s response on this matter was an attempt to establish a new tradition, which he deemed inappropriate.
As the Congress-led opposition continued its slogan shouting, Speaker Birla had no choice but to adjourn the House until the next day.
Amidst the chaos, the Lok Sabha’s earlier proceedings were repeatedly disrupted, leading to only a few bills being introduced and the Question Hour running for a mere half an hour.
