A recent incident at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport saw a SpiceJet aircraft catch fire during maintenance work. Luckily, both the engine and the aircraft remained unharmed. Initial investigations suggest that the fire might have been caused by spilled fuel that spread to the plane. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a statement regarding the incident.

According to the airlines’ spokesperson, “On July 25, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft under maintenance, while carrying out engine ground run at idle power at bay, the AME observed fire warning on #1 Engine. Aircraft fire extinguisher bottle was discharged. As a precaution, the fire brigade was called. Aircraft and maintenance personnel are safe.”
