New Delhi, September 21: The Government of India has issued a formal advisory to television channels, urging them to exercise caution and refrain from providing a platform for reports, references, or viewpoints of individuals with backgrounds that include serious criminal charges or associations with proscribed organizations. This advisory aligns with the reasonable restrictions outlined in Article 19(2) of the Constitution and the provisions detailed in sub-section (2) of Section 20 of the CTN Act.

This directive follows an incident brought to the attention of the Ministry, wherein a person residing in a foreign country, against whom there are significant allegations, including those related to terrorism and affiliation with a proscribed organization in India, was invited to participate in a televised discussion. During this program, the individual made several comments and remarks that were deemed detrimental to India’s sovereignty and integrity, the nation’s security, friendly relations with a foreign state, and had the potential to disrupt public order within the country.
