India Ranks 40th in Global Innovation Index 2023

India has maintained its 40th position among 132 global economies in the recently released Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023 rankings by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). This ranking showcases India’s consistent upward trajectory in the GII, having risen from 81st place in 2015 to its current 40th position in 2023.

Scheduled for September 29, 2023, NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and WIPO, will virtually host the India Launch of GII 2023. The event is set to feature distinguished guests, including NITI Aayog’s Vice-Chairman Suman Bery, Member V. K. Saraswat, CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, and WIPO’s Director General Daren Tang, among other dignitaries.

The Global Innovation Index (GII) serves as a valuable tool for governments worldwide to evaluate the impact of innovation on their respective economies and societies. Over the years, it has become a key policy instrument for governments, enabling them to assess their current positions and chart paths for future growth.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) has played an integral role in India’s journey towards building an innovation-driven economy, reinforcing the country’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable development.

The GII 2023 rankings underscore India’s steadfast commitment to innovation and its recognition as a global player in the realm of research and development.
