Swiggy Increases Platform Fee for Food Orders to Rs 3
New Delhi, Oct 16: Following in the footsteps of Zomato, the online food delivery giant Swiggy has raised its platform fee for food orders from Rs 2 to Rs 3.
A spokesperson from Swiggy informed IANS on Monday that there hasn’t been a significant change in the platform fee, as it’s a common industry practice adopted by most service providers.
“The platform fee currently stands at Rs 3 in the majority of cities where we operate,” added the spokesperson.
It’s important to note that this platform fee applies exclusively to Swiggy’s food delivery service and doesn’t impact Instamart orders.
In April, Swiggy initially introduced a platform fee of Rs 2 per order, regardless of the order’s cart value.
In August, Swiggy’s main competitor, Zomato, also hiked its platform fee to Rs 3 per order, up from the initial Rs 2. This move included Zomato Gold users who were previously exempted from the platform fee.
On another note, Swiggy has played a significant role in disbursing loans to restaurant owners. The company has facilitated over Rs 450 crore in loan disbursements to more than 8,000 restaurant owners as part of its capital assist program.
The capital assist program, launched in 2017, is a pioneering solution aimed at bridging the financing gap and empowering restaurant owners. To date, over 8,000 restaurants have availed loans, with 3,000 of them securing loans in 2022 alone, according to the company’s statement.
