Washington, October 19: The US Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported that three drones attempting to target American forces in Iraq were successfully intercepted and shot down, resulting in minor injuries to coalition forces.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, CENTCOM stated, “Over the past 24 hours, the US military thwarted three drone incidents in close proximity to US and Coalition forces in Iraq.”
“In western Iraq, US forces engaged two drones, destroying one and damaging the second, leading to minor injuries among Coalition forces. Separately, in northern Iraq, US forces successfully engaged and destroyed another drone, with no injuries or damage reported.”
The statement further noted, “We are currently assessing the effects on our ongoing operations.”
CENTCOM emphasized that, “During this period of heightened alert, we are closely monitoring the situation in Iraq and the broader region.”
The origin and responsible parties behind the drone attacks have not been immediately confirmed. This development occurs within a regional context marked by simmering tensions, notably in light of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
