Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticized the Central Government, accusing them of attempting to hack the Apple devices of his office members, party leaders, and Opposition leaders.
During a press conference held at the party headquarters, Gandhi labeled this alleged hacking as the work of “criminals and thieves” and emphasized that they are not afraid.
Gandhi disclosed that numerous political leaders, including members of his office, had received alerts from Apple about potential hacking attempts. He mentioned specific individuals who had received these alerts, such as Venugopal, Supriya Shrinate, Pawan Khera, and TS Singh Deo, highlighting that the entire Opposition had been affected.
He even presented a copy of the email that several Opposition leaders received from their phone manufacturers warning them about “state-sponsored attackers” attempting to compromise their devices.
Despite these challenges, Gandhi asserted, “You can do as much phone tapping as you want, I don’t care. If you want to take my phone, I will give it to you.”
When questioned about the party’s strategy in response to these attacks, particularly after the previous use of the Pegasus spyware, Gandhi pointed out that his name was mentioned in the previous Pegasus inquiry but later disappeared. This, he argued, reflects the current state of the country.
Gandhi stressed the role of the Opposition in enlightening the public about these issues and suggested that the attacks were a sign of panic. He remarked, “This is obviously not done by someone who is honest. This is the work of thieves and criminals. Only thieves and criminals will do this.”
In addition to the hacking concerns, Gandhi reiterated his demand for a caste-based census across the country, stating that justice is crucial for India’s future. He emphasized that without a caste census, the people of the country would not receive the justice they deserve.
Several Opposition leaders, including Trinamool Congress’ Moitra, Congress leader Pawan Khera, Supriya Shrinate, Alka Lamba, KC Venugopal, Shiv Sena UBT leader Priyanka Chaturvedi, CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechury, and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, also alleged that their mobile phones were being targeted by the Centre.
