Revanth Reddy Elected as Telangana’s Second Chief Minister, First from Congress in Separate State

Hyderabad, December 05: The two-day suspense surrounding the Chief Ministerial selection in Telangana concluded with the Congress High Command officially declaring Enumula Revanth Reddy as the state’s second Chief Minister and the first from the Congress in a separate state. AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal formally announced Revanth’s designation on Tuesday, highlighting that the decision had unanimous support from all Congress MLAs. Rahul Gandhi endorsed Revanth’s leadership, and the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at LB Stadium on Thursday.

Before the official announcement, Revanth received a call from authorities, prompting his departure to Delhi. There, he engaged in crucial discussions with his siblings Sonia, Rahul, and Kharge, focusing on portfolio allocation and the formation of the cabinet. Party insiders suggest that a detailed breakdown of ministerial appointments will be disclosed in the coming days.

In the initial stages, Uttam and Bhatti Vikramarka expressed interest in the Chief Minister’s position and made efforts in Delhi. However, the decision-making process shifted to the national capital, where AICC Chief Mallikarjuna Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and KC Venugopal convened to finalize Revanth’s candidacy after an extensive meeting.

The swearing-in ceremony at LB Stadium will be a grand event, with invitations extended to key leaders from the high command, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mallikarjuna Kharge, and KC Venugopal.

Following the official announcement, Rahul Gandhi personally contacted Revanth to convey his selection as the Chief Minister. Revanth then received congratulatory messages from MLAs and leaders, including CPI National General Secretary Narayana and others who visited Hotel Ella, where MLAs had been staying for two days.

However, the delayed announcement led to agitation among activists, with two youths attempting suicide at the hotel. Swift police intervention prevented the tragic incident.

Revanth, after leaving for Delhi, is anticipated to discuss portfolios and the ministry with the high command on Wednesday. Speculations in party circles suggest that Bhatti Vikramarka and Uttam may be assigned key portfolios, potentially including Deputy Chief Minister positions.

As news of Revanth’s appointment spread, security measures were heightened around his residence, with heavy police presence, barricades, and traffic control implemented to manage the growing public interest.

Thursday’s swearing-in ceremony is poised to mark the commencement of Revanth Reddy’s tenure as Chief Minister, ushering in a new era for the Congress in Telangana. The party hopes that this development will pave the way for a positive and transformative period in the state’s governance.
