Beijing, December 15:

Over 30 individuals sustained injuries when a subway train experienced a carriage separation incident on Thursday evening along the Changping Line in snow-affected Beijing, as reported by local authorities.

The Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport confirmed the occurrence at 6:57 p.m. Prompt response teams from emergency services, fire, health, and traffic departments swiftly reached the scene, initiating rescue operations, according to Xinhua news agency.

Injured passengers have been transported to hospitals for necessary treatment, while the investigation into the cause of the accident is still underway.

The unaffected sections of the Changping Line have continued operations, as stated by the Beijing Subway. The company issued an apology for the incident and assured to cover the medical expenses of the injured passengers.

Beijing has been grappling with snowfall since Wednesday, leading to disruptions in train services and the suspension of schools. The city remains under an orange alert for heavy snow, a yellow alert for icy roads, and a blue alert for cold waves. China follows a four-tier weather warning system, with red being the most severe, followed by orange, yellow, and blue.
