DGP Telangana Commends Incident-Free 2023 at Annual Report

In a press meet held on 29/12/2023, the Director General of Police (DGP) for Telangana expressed satisfaction with the state’s safety record, noting a notable reduction in incidents compared to the previous year. Despite the challenges posed by the recent Legislative Assembly Elections, the police force, alongside the media, navigated a demanding year marked by pre-poll and post-poll events.

The DGP emphasized the guiding principles of duty, honor, and compassion, with a commitment to basic policing as the core mission. Ensuring accessibility and transparency aligning with the government’s vision of Praja Vani/Praja Palaana, the officers are duty-bound to serve and protect the citizens of the state.

Addressing the citizens’ concerns, the DGP outlined the empathetic and responsive approach of Telangana State Police, particularly towards vulnerable sections of society. Resolving issues within the ambit of the law and upholding the dignity of each individual are paramount.

Basic policing strategies include community outreach, serving beats, and vigilant crime prevention. Prioritizing the quality of investigation and effective traffic management are focal points, emphasizing collaboration with all stakeholders to expedite the citizens’ journey through the criminal justice system.

Acknowledging two major challenges—drug menace and increasing cybercrimes—the DGP highlighted the government’s support in strengthening dedicated wings to tackle these issues. A zero-tolerance policy towards drugs was emphasized, with a call for collective responsibility to protect present and future generations.

On the cybercrime front, Telangana State Police leads with the establishment of an exclusive cybersecurity bureau and a dedicated helpline. The DGP urged citizens to exercise caution online, emphasizing the importance of reporting cybercrimes promptly through the established channels.

In the fight against cybercrimes, the bureau has received nearly 90,000 complaints, registered 14,000 FIRs, frozen ₹133 crores, and blocked 30,000 suspicious SIMs. The DGP introduced new measures, including blocking IMEI numbers and an SMS service for the national helpline.

In conclusion, the DGP assured citizens that Telangana Police would remain responsive, respectful, and reachable to all, underscoring their commitment to safeguarding the community.
