Tokyo January 01,2024
In a seismic event off the north coast of central Japan, a powerful 7.6 magnitude earthquake has shaken the region. Evacuation orders are in effect as tsunami warnings spread across Ishikawa Prefecture, with waves reaching as high as 1.2 meters at Wajima port. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi urges residents to move to safe locations immediately.
The strange behavior of birds was observed during the earthquake, adding to the heightened alert. Japan Meteorological Agency issues a major tsunami warning for Ishikawa and lower-level warnings for the western coast of Honshu. NHK TV warns of potential 5-meter torrents and advises people to seek higher ground or find refuge on top of nearby buildings.

Despite initial reports of a 3-meter tsunami expected to hit Niigata and other western coast prefectures, the situation remains fluid. Tokyo Electric Power Co. is monitoring a nuclear plant in the affected area, reporting no immediate irregularities.
In a swift response, Russia’s Emergencies Ministry evacuates parts of Sakhalin Island, located near Japan, due to the threat of a tsunami. As the situation unfolds, the government is set to hold a news conference later in the day. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
