YS Sharmila Joins Congress, Merges YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP)
New Delhi, January 04,2024
In a significant political development, YS Sharmila, the leader of YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), officially joined the Congress party today. The invitation extended by AICC president Mallikarjuna Kharge and Rahul Gandhi marked the initiation of this pivotal merger.
Expressing her enthusiasm, Sharmila stated, “I am happy to merge YSRTP with Congress, following in the footsteps of my father, YS Rajasekhara Reddy, who dedicated his life to the Congress cause.”

Highlighting YSR’s impactful legacy within the Congress, Sharmila remarked, “YSR was a great leader in the Congress party, tirelessly working for its success throughout his life.”
Emphasizing the Congress party’s inclusive ethos, she stated, “Congress is the largest secular party in the country, working collaboratively and comprehensively for the people.”
Touching upon her personal concerns, Sharmila, as a Christian, expressed deep distress over the recent demolition of churches in Manipur. She asserted, “This unfortunate incident underscores the importance of having a secular party in power.”
Reflecting on recent political events, Sharmila mentioned the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which strengthened her faith in Rahul Gandhi. “His support for Congress and the decision not to contest, aiming to avoid splitting the anti-KCR vote, resonated with people across the spectrum,” she said.
In a poignant moment, Sharmila revealed, “My father’s fervent wish is to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister of our country.”
This merger and Sharmila’s endorsement add a significant dimension to the political landscape, as the Congress party continues to consolidate support with the inclusion of influential leaders.
