In the wake of the online boycott Maldives campaign, EaseMyTrip, headquartered in the national capital, has chosen to suspend all flight bookings to the Maldives.
This decision follows derogatory remarks made by now-suspended ministers against India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The comments stem from the Prime Minister’s recent visit to Lakshadweep.
Established in 2008, EaseMyTrip was founded by Nishant Pitti, Rikant Pitti, and Prashant Pitti.
“In solidarity with our nation, @EaseMyTrip has suspended all Maldives flight bookings #TravelUpdate #SupportingNation,” announced Nishant Pitti, the founder, and CEO, on X.
On Sunday, the Maldivian government suspended three ministers for making derogatory remarks against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his Lakshadweep visit, as reported by local media.
The suspended ministers—Mariyam Shiuna, Malsha, and Hassan Zihan—received the suspension due to their disparaging comments against Prime Minister Modi on X, according to Atoll Times.
Although Prime Minister Modi focused on promoting Lakshadweep as a tourist destination and did not mention the Maldives during his visit, irked ministers of the island country remarked, “India faces significant challenges in competing with the Maldives in beach tourism.”
