In a remarkable journey from the humble village of Kishtapuram in Kusumanchi Mandal, Khammam District, Mahender Reddy, a member of the 1986 batch, rose through the ranks to become the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. Born into a middle-class agricultural family, Reddy’s educational journey began in a one-way school.

Commencing his career as the Ramagundam ASP, he subsequently held pivotal roles as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Nizamabad and Kurnool. His dedication led to a five-year tenure at the National Police Academy before making history as the first Commissioner of the newly formed Cyberabad Commissionerate during the Chandrababu Naidu regime.

During his tenure in Cyberabad, Reddy spearheaded transformative reforms within the police department, serving as Commissioner for an impressive three-year period. His contributions extended to crucial departments such as Greyhounds and Police Computers, where he also assumed leadership in key intelligence roles.

Following the formation of Telangana state, Mahender Reddy took charge as the Commissioner of Hyderabad. Noteworthy for his commitment to ‘friendly policing,’ he diligently worked towards modernizing police stations and implementing innovative approaches.

In November 2017, Mahender Reddy assumed the prestigious position of DGP of Telangana, where he continued to steer the state’s law enforcement until December 2022. His journey exemplifies a relentless pursuit of excellence and a commitment to advancing policing practices.
