New Delhi, Feb 13: EPIC Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, introduced India’s first AI-enabled education tablet, entirely designed and manufactured in the country, on Tuesday.
Developed by VVDN Technologies in collaboration with MediaTek India and CoRover.ai, the tablets boast unique features focusing on repairability and upgradability, addressing the challenges of the digital divide and electronic waste accumulation in India.
S. Krishnan, Secretary of MeitY, expressed pride in launching a tablet designed and inspired by India, emphasizing its potential to benefit a vast number of students and inspire youth to pursue indigenous innovation.
Dr. Ajai Chowdhry, Chairman of EPIC Foundation, highlighted the tablet’s role in advancing Indian electronics towards self-reliance, emphasizing the importance of producing products with easily replaceable and upgradable components.
The new product aims to promote demand for ‘Indian, repairable, sustainable’ electronics and remove financial barriers hindering schools from obtaining durable devices, thereby extending the product lifespan.
Addressing concerns of repair expenses, substandard goods, and electronic waste, Chowdhry emphasized the employment opportunities the repairable product would create for engineers across India.
The education tablet integrates the BharatGPT virtual assistant and features AI/ML-based inter-lingual translation for Indian languages, promoting digital learning and inclusivity.
Krishnan emphasized the need to increase value addition in the electronics sector, outlining MeitY’s goals to enhance electronic component production in India, building on the success of the electronics PLI program.
With a focus on boosting domestic value addition, Krishnan highlighted the importance of increasing the share of electronic component production to drive India’s electronics sector forward.
