New Delhi, Feb 13: Following clashes between farmers and police at the Haryana-Punjab Shambhu border and in Haryana’s Jind District, the Delhi Police sealed the Singhu border on Tuesday evening, reinforcing barricades and deploying heavy forces, including paramilitary personnel. A senior police official stated, “The Singhu Border is inaccessible, and traffic diversion is in place at Mukarba Chowk. Vehicles intending to go to Haryana from Mukarba Chowk can divert towards Loni Border or Madhuban Chowk onwards to Ring Road.” Earlier in the day, massive traffic congestion was reported at entry and exit points of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, as police and paramilitary forces, equipped with anti-riot gear, erected multiple layers of barricades, concrete blocks, iron nails, and containers’ walls in anticipation of the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march by farmers. To prevent farmers from entering the national capital, police teams, along with the RAF, SSB, and CAPF, were deployed on Delhi borders, including Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur. Cement blocks and pickets with nails were strategically placed on approach roads. On Monday, Delhi Police invoked Section 144 of the CrPC citywide and fortified borders as a precautionary measure, with Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora issuing directives for the next 30 days. Furthermore, Red Fort has been temporarily closed to visitors. A total of 114 companies, including 64 from paramilitary forces and 50 from Haryana Police, have been deployed across various districts. Additionally, surveillance technologies like drones and CCTV cameras are being employed to monitor any disruptive activities.
