New Delhi, Feb 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the Rs 75,000 crore rooftop solar scheme aimed at providing free electricity to consumers. Dubbed the “PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana,” the initiative targets lighting up 1 crore households by offering up to 300 units of free electricity every month.

Addressing the launch event, PM Modi stated, “In our commitment to sustainable development and the welfare of our citizens, we introduce the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This ambitious project, backed by an investment exceeding Rs 75,000 crores, seeks to alleviate the electricity burden on households.”

He emphasized the government’s comprehensive support, ranging from direct subsidies deposited into people’s bank accounts to highly concessional bank loans, ensuring minimal financial strain on the populace. Additionally, a National Online Portal will streamline processes for all stakeholders, enhancing accessibility.

To foster grassroots adoption, PM Modi announced incentives for Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats to promote rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions. He highlighted the scheme’s potential to boost household income, reduce power bills, and spur employment opportunities.

Encouraging widespread participation, PM Modi urged residential consumers, particularly the youth, to register for the PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana through the dedicated portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
