Goods Train Travels Unmanned Across Kashmir to Punjab, Narrowly Avoids Disaster

Jammu, February 26

In a startling incident, a goods train embarked on an unmanned journey from Kashmir to Punjab, covering a distance of over 78 kilometers. The train, identified as Goods Train 14806R, loaded with 53 wagons of chip stones, came to a halt at Kathua Railway Station in Jammu.

The cause of this unprecedented event was attributed to the loco pilot and assistant loco pilot exiting the train without engaging the hand brake. As a result, the train, propelled by the slope of the railway track towards Pathankot, gradually gained momentum, reaching speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour and traversing a total distance of 84 kilometers.

Fortunately, catastrophe was averted as there were no oncoming trains occupying the track during the train’s unmanned voyage. The situation was brought under control when wooden blocks were strategically placed at Uchi Bassi railway station, ultimately halting the runaway train.

This incident underscores the critical importance of adherence to safety protocols and vigilant oversight in railway operations to prevent potential disasters.
