Telangana Deputy CM Assures Free Electricity for Griha Jyoti Beneficiaries and Focus on Green Energy
Hyderabad March 09
In a recent media conference held at the Secretariat, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka reaffirmed the Telangana government’s commitment to providing free electricity to households under the Griha Jyoti scheme. He emphasized that beneficiaries using less than 200 units of electricity are exempt from paying bills. Addressing concerns about false propaganda surrounding Griha Jyoti, Vikramarka urged citizens to disregard misinformation and assured that those who apply with accurate details will receive the benefit. Currently, over 4 million families across the state have availed themselves of zero bills through the scheme.
Additionally, Vikramarka announced the government’s decision not to extend Rythu Bandhu benefits to hilly terrain, stressing the need to allocate funds responsibly for the benefit of farmers. He highlighted the administration’s focus on fair distribution, stating that Rythu Bandhu is now being extended to farmers with up to 4 acres of land, with plans to include those with less than 5 acres in the near future.
Regarding electricity supply, Vikramarka noted a record level of 15,623 MW demand, with the government successfully meeting the demand by supplying 303 million units. He pointed out that despite increased demands compared to the previous government’s tenure, the current administration has consistently provided surplus electricity. He reassured the public that measures have been taken to prevent electricity price hikes and clarified that there are no plans to install meters for agricultural pumps.

Furthermore, Vikramarka outlined the government’s plans to position Telangana as a model for green energy generation. He disclosed upcoming policies focusing on alternative power sources, including solar, wind, and hydel energy. The government aims to leverage various resources such as unused coal blocks and irrigation canals for solar power generation, ensuring sufficient electricity production to meet the state’s needs.
In a significant move to empower women, Vikramarka announced the launch of the Indira Kranti scheme, providing interest-free loans to women’s self-help groups starting from the 12th of the month. These loans aim to facilitate the establishment of small-scale industries and empower women economically.
Responding to criticism from opposition parties, particularly BRS, Vikramarka defended the Congress government’s actions, citing the fulfillment of promises and financial discipline. He highlighted the allocation of funds in the budget for Congress’s guarantees and emphasized the government’s efforts to address financial challenges inherited from the previous administration.
With a focus on inclusive development and sustainable energy, the Telangana government under Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka’s leadership is poised to usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for the state.
