Major Operation Garuda Busts International Drug Cartel
Vizag, March 21
In a significant development in the fight against organized drug trafficking, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has detained a shipping container suspected of carrying narcotics. As part of “Operation Garuda,” initiated to combat international drug cartels, the CBI, in collaboration with the Customs Department Vishakapatnam, intercepted the container at Visakhapatnam Port.
The container, originating from Santos Port, Brazil, and destined for Visakhapatnam, India, was declared to contain 1000 bags of Inactive Dried Yeast, totaling 25000 kg. However, upon preliminary examination using narcotics detection mechanisms, authorities discovered that the shipment contained narcotics mixed with the Inactive Dried Yeast.

The entire consignment has been seized, and an FIR has been registered against the consignee and unidentified accomplices. This operation underscores the involvement of an international criminal network engaged in importing narcotics by mixing them with other substances, commonly known as cutting agents.
This is not the first instance of the CBI taking action based on Interpol inputs. Previous operations have resulted in the registration of offenses under the NDPS Act, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to combating the global drug menace.
The investigation into this latest incident is ongoing, with authorities determined to root out such illicit activities at an international level.
