In a recent press conference at the Civil Supply Bhawan, Commissioner DS Chauhan vehemently denied allegations of misconduct leveled against him and Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy by BRS and BJP leaders. Asserting the ethical integrity of their operations, Chauhan warned of legal repercussions against those spreading falsehoods.
Chauhan challenged accusers to substantiate claims of any financial impropriety, emphasizing his 25-year record of transparent service. Refuting insinuations of collusion with millers, he pledged to combat any attempts to besmirch the department’s reputation.
Addressing concerns over grain procurement, Chauhan assured transparency in the process, even purchasing wet and sprouted grain. With procurement spanning 7172 centers statewide, he highlighted the acquisition of 39.51 lakh tonnes of grain, with 83 percent of payments disbursed directly to farmers.
Regarding defaulting millers, Chauhan disclosed stringent measures, including 43 criminal cases and the recovery of Rs. 668 crores, with Rs. 1438 crores pending. Notably, the department’s debt was reduced by Rs. 6400 crores within three months, easing the financial burden.
To mitigate losses due to untimely rains, the department adopted scientific procurement methods, securing government-funded quality paddy for millers. Utilizing weather forecasting apps, they proactively alerted districts and implemented measures to prevent grain spoilage.
Addressing allegations of irregularities in fine rice procurement, Chauhan clarified adherence to established protocols, with prices aligned with market rates. He assured imminent decisions regarding expired tender grain.
