Amaravati, June 4 – In a surprising turn of events, the YSR Congress party, led by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, faced a significant defeat in the state Assembly elections. Despite implementing several welfare schemes benefiting crores of people, the party was virtually wiped out.
Reddy expressed his surprise at the outcome, stating that he did not expect such a result. However, he accepted the people’s verdict and vowed to continue working for the people, especially the poor. “We fell down but will rise with courage,” he said.
The YSR Congress party has a history of being in the opposition, and Reddy remarked that struggle is not new to them. Despite the defeat, the party is ready to face any hardships that come their way.
The TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance is heading for a landslide victory, winning 85 seats and leading in 79 seats. The alliance is also leading in 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats. In contrast, the YSRCP has won only three Assembly seats and is leading in eight segments and four Lok Sabha constituencies.
Reddy also highlighted the major welfare schemes implemented by his government and expressed surprise at the party’s defeat despite these efforts. He claimed that his government had initiated measures for the development of all sections, including benefits for 53 lakh mothers, pensions for 66 lakh elderly people, physically challenged and widows, and support for 54 lakh farmers.
