Mumbai, June 19, 2024 — In a shocking incident, a human finger was discovered in a Yummo ice-cream delivered to Dr. Brendan Ferrao in Mumbai. The investigation by Malad police revealed that the finger likely belonged to a young worker from Fortune Dairy’s plant in Indapur, Pune, which manufactures ice-creams for Yummo.

The worker reportedly injured his middle finger in an accident at the plant, and although he received treatment at a private hospital, the severed finger was not recovered at the time. The incident came to light when the finger was found in Dr. Ferrao’s ice-cream, causing a major controversy.

Following the discovery, Yummo Ice-Creams immediately ceased all third-party manufacturing with Fortune Dairy and initiated a comprehensive recall of all stocks from markets and warehouses. The affected batch was produced almost a month before the incident was reported on June 12, and it had passed through multiple storage locations in Pune and Mumbai before reaching the customer.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has since inspected the Fortune Dairy factory and suspended its manufacturing license pending the investigation. Forensic tests, including a DNA test, are underway to confirm the identity of the severed finger.

This incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and manufacturing practices in the industry, prompting a thorough review by the authorities.
