A day after India’s exhilarating seven-run victory over South Africa in the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup final at Kensington Oval, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced a monumental reward of INR 125 crore for the team. The Indian Express detailed the distribution plan for this significant prize money among the squad members, coaching staff, support staff, and the selection committee.

The 15-member squad will receive the largest share of the reward, with each player being rewarded handsomely for their stellar performance. The coaching staff, including head coach Rahul Dravid, batting coach Vikram Rathour, fielding coach T. Dilip, and bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, will each receive INR 2.5 crore.

The selection committee, comprising chairman Ajit Agarkar and members Salil Ankola, Subroto Banerjee, Shiv Sundar Das, and S. Sharath, will be awarded INR 1 crore each for their crucial role in assembling the winning team.

The support staff, essential to the team’s success, will also be well-compensated. Physiotherapists Kamlesh Jain, Yogesh Parmar, and Thulasi Ram Yuvraj; throwdown specialists Raghavindraa Dvgi, Nuwan Udeneke, and Dayanand Garani; masseurs Rajeev Kumar and Arun Kanade; and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai will each receive INR 2 crore.

Additionally, the team’s video analyst, BCCI staff members who traveled with the team, including media officers and the logistics manager, will also be rewarded for their contributions.

This reward distribution follows a tradition of the BCCI recognizing the efforts of the team and support staff. In 2013, after India’s Champions Trophy win, each player received INR 1 crore, and the support staff was given INR 30 lakh each. For the 2011 ODI World Cup victory, players initially received INR 1 crore each, which was later doubled to INR 2 crore, while the support staff got INR 50 lakh each, and selectors were awarded INR 25 lakh each. In 2007, the inaugural T20 World Cup victory brought the team a total prize of INR 12 crore. India’s first ODI World Cup triumph in 1983 saw each team member receive INR 1 lakh, thanks to a fundraising concert by the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

This generous reward distribution underscores the BCCI’s commitment to acknowledging and celebrating the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in India’s cricketing successes.
