Harare: Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan was named the recipient of India’s ‘Best Attitude of the Match’ award following his outstanding all-round commitment and match-winning innings in the second T20 International against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.
Kishan played a scintillating knock of 81 runs off just 44 balls, helping India post a formidable 219/5. The visitors then bundled out Zimbabwe for 129, sealing a comprehensive 90-run victory and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series under captain Shreyas Iyer.
After the match, head coach VVS Laxman entrusted the responsibility of announcing the ‘Best Attitude of the Match’ award to the support staff. Strength and Conditioning Coach A.I. Harsha revealed Kishan as the winner, praising his professionalism, preparation, and commitment throughout the tour.
Harsha said Kishan approached every aspect of the tour with determination and clarity, seeking to improve in every department, including fielding, fitness, and skill development.
“He came on this tour meaning business. Every time he stepped onto the field, he looked focused and knew exactly what he wanted to achieve. He was very precise in his preparation and committed to improving every aspect of his game,” Harsha said in a video shared by the BCCI.
While acknowledging that Kishan made a minor error in the field during the match, Harsha said his overall performance far outweighed that lapse.
“Even though he had a small blip in the field, everything else he did was exceptional. His positive contributions completely overshadowed that moment. Today’s award goes to Ishan Kishan,” he added.
Accepting the honour, Kishan credited the team’s collective effort and encouraged his teammates to maintain the same intensity and positive mindset.
“Well done, everyone. The energy from behind the stumps and on the field shows we are moving in the right direction. Let’s continue this momentum and keep doing our best for the team,” Kishan said.
The ‘Best Attitude of the Match’ award was introduced by head coach VVS Laxman during the Zimbabwe tour to recognise players who best embody the team’s values, commitment, and positive attitude. Vice-captain Tilak Varma received the inaugural award after India’s victory in the opening T20I.
With Kishan returning to top form and India dominating the series, the visitors will now look to complete a clean sweep in the final T20I against Zimbabwe.
