Bengaluru, August 2: Telangana emerged as the Overall Champion at the 15th Shotokan National Karate Championship–2026, held in Bengaluru, after an exceptional performance by students of GVR Karate Academy. Representing the state, the academy’s athletes delivered a dominant display in both Kata and Kumite events, securing a total of 38 Gold Medals and 10 Silver Medals.
The prestigious Overall Championship Trophy was presented to Dr. G. S. Gopal Reddy, Director of GVR Karate Academy, by championship organizer Munir Pasha and ODRIO Karate Chief Rajasekharan during the prize distribution ceremony.
A total of 24 students from the academy competed across various age groups and belt categories. Their remarkable performance included 15 Gold and 9 Silver medals in Kata, along with 23 Gold and 1 Silver medal in Kumite, helping Telangana secure the coveted Overall Championship title.
Among the standout performers were G. Amrutha Reddy, G. Gana Santhoshini Reddy, Anagha, Mahima Vishal Patel, Gautami, Akshini, Sivani, Mouktika, Makadiya Shreya, Bollam Chinmayi Priya, Olakunti John Preetham, M. Akash Chauhan, Aarav, and Saharsh, all of whom won gold medals in both Kata and Kumite.
Several other athletes also made significant contributions to Telangana’s success, including Dwaita, Sritha, Zunaira, G. Avigna Venkat Reddy, Lakshmi Narasimha, Vansh, Prithviraj Pinjara, Lakakula Anveeth Patel, Bhargav, and Raghuram, who secured medals across their respective categories.
Congratulating the medal winners, Dr. G. S. Gopal Reddy, along with the coaching staff and parents, praised the athletes for bringing national glory to Telangana. He expressed confidence that the academy’s karatekas would continue to achieve success at international competitions and further enhance the reputation of both Telangana and India.
The championship victory marks another significant milestone for GVR Karate Academy, reaffirming its position as one of the leading karate training institutions in the country.
