Jitender Appointed Director General of Police of Telangana
Hyderabad: Senior IPS officer and Principal Secretary to the Government of the Home Department, Jitender, has been appointed as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari issued an order granting him full additional charge of the DGP (HOPF) position. The current DGP, Ravi Gupta, has been transferred to the role of Special Principal Secretary to the Government of the Home Department, as stated in the order.
The newly appointed DGP, Jitender, met with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy at the Secretariat and officially took charge of his new position.
Jitender, born into a farming family in Jalandhar, Punjab, is a 1992 batch IPS officer. His early life began in Ferozepur, Punjab, just 8 km from the Pakistan border. He later moved to Delhi and graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Jitender’s career began in the Andhra Pradesh Cadre, where he first worked as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Bellampally. He then served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in Nirmal, followed by Mahbubnagar and Guntur districts of undivided Andhra Pradesh. Promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG), he served in the Visakhapatnam range and continued as DIG of the Warangal range during the Telangana movement.
After his tenure in Andhra Pradesh CID, the Commission of Inquiry, and Vigilance and Enforcement, Jitender was appointed as the Additional Commissioner of Traffic in the Hyderabad Commissionerate. He later worked as the Additional DGP of the Telangana Law and Order Department and as the Director General (DG) of the Prisons Department. He was serving as the Principal Secretary of the Home Department before his recent appointment as DGP.
Jitender is set to retire in September 2025. He has been honored with the President’s Award for Distinguished Service for his tenure as the Director of the Telangana State Police Academy as Additional DGP.
