KCR Challenges State Government Commission in Supreme Court

New Delhi,  July 15,2024

Former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the formation of the State Government Commission led by Justice L. Narasimha Reddy.

KCR filed a petition in the Supreme Court on June 24, contesting the High Court’s dismissal of his earlier petition on this matter. The petition is set to be heard today by a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Mishra.

The commission, led by Justice L. Narasimha Reddy, was established on March 14. KCR’s petition seeks to repeal the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952, arguing that it contradicts the Electricity Act, 2003. He contends that the commission lacks authority to investigate disputes regarding electricity purchases unless the Telangana and Chhattisgarh Electricity Regulatory Boards have resolved them.

In an 8-page letter, KCR requested Justice Narasimha Reddy to step down, asserting that he had done nothing wrong.
