Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday addressed the Assembly, clarifying his remarks about two BRS women MLAs that had caused chaos the previous day. He stated that he considers the women MLAs as his sisters and criticized the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for “using” these sisters to play politics and disrupt House proceedings.
Reddy’s remarks came in response to protests by BRS MLAs, who staged a walkout and held a sit-in outside his chambers, demanding an apology for allegedly insulting comments made against BRS MLAs P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and V. Sunita Lakshma Reddy. Denying any insulting remarks, Reddy emphasized that he views them as his sisters.
He clarified that his previous comments were misconstrued. “I only mentioned that a sister left Congress after inviting me to the party and joined BRS for a ministerial position. For the other sister, I campaigned, and now I have two cases pending in court,” he explained. He urged Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunita Lakshma Reddy not to fall into the BRS’s political traps.
Targeting BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao, Reddy remarked, “I will not roam around doing politics if my sister is in jail.” He accused the opposition leader of entering a secret deal in New Delhi while his own sister was in Tihar Jail.
Reddy also alleged that following Wednesday’s House proceedings, BRS supporters posted memes on social media insulting Tribal Minister Seethakka. Additionally, he claimed that BRS leader and former Chief Minister KCR avoids the Assembly because he does not want to sit in front of the Speaker, who is a Dalit.
Reddy credited the Congress for giving political life to KCR and noted that Harish Rao became a minister due to the Congress party’s support. He criticized the opposition for creating disruptions in the House, stating, “The opposition creates a ruckus when they are given mikes and stage protests when they are denied the opportunity.”
He accused BRS leaders of focusing solely on political gains while neglecting people’s issues in the House. According to Reddy, the BRS obstructed the House from debating the farm loan waiver scheme by using women MLAs as puppets and avoided discussing the Skill University.
The Chief Minister’s remarks have sparked further debate and heightened tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, highlighting the ongoing political strife in Telangana’s Assembly.
