
DGP Dr. Soumya Mishra Congratulates National Karate Champions from Telangana
Hyderabad, August 4, 2024 – In a remarkable display of martial arts prowess, 19 students from the Telangana State GVR Karate Academy have achieved outstanding success at the 11th Shotokan National Karate Competition, held in Bengaluru. The team, composed of 12 girls and 7 boys, brought home a total of 34 gold medals and 3 silver medals.

Girls’ Triumphs:
- Amrita Reddy: Secured gold in both Kata and Kumite in the senior girls’ black belt category.
- Yogini: Achieved double gold in Kata and Kumite in the under-18 girls’ -60 kg category.
- Shiny: Earned gold in both Kata and Kumite in the under-50 kg category.
- Gana Santoshini Reddy: Dominated the under-16 girls’ -60 kg category, winning gold in both Kata and Kumite.
- Nidhi Verma: Claimed gold in both Kata and Kumite in the under-55 kg category.
- Gautami: Won gold in Kumite in the Brown Belt +70 kg category.
- Rajita: Secured a gold medal in Kumite in the -50 kg category.
- Lokya Sri: Excelled in both Kata and Kumite in the under-40 kg category, winning double gold.
- Yashaswi: Achieved gold in both Kata and Kumite in the under-14 girls’ -45 kg category.
- Duhitha: Won gold in both Kata and Kumite in the under-40 kg category.
- Midhuna Sai: Secured gold in both Kata and Kumite in the under-30 kg category.

Boys’ Successes:
- Avighna Venkatareddy: Dominated the under-14 black belt category -50 kg, winning gold in both Kata and Kumite.
- Omer: Achieved double gold in Kata and Kumite in the under-14 boys’ -55 kg category.
- Saharsh Kancharla: Secured gold in both Kata and Kumite in the under-45 kg category.
- Lakshmi Narasimha: Won gold in Kumite in the under-40 kg category and earned a silver medal in Kumite.
- Bhargava Sai: Claimed gold in Kumite in the under-35 kg category.
- Prithviraj: Secured gold in Kumite in the under-30 kg category.
- Lakshit: Achieved gold in Kumite in the under-8 years category.
The students’ exceptional performance led them to win 17 gold medals and 2 silver medals in the Kata division and 18 gold medals and 1 silver medal in the Kumite division, along with the prestigious Champion’s Cup.

In recognition of their achievements, DGP Dr. Soumya Mishra, Director General of the Jail Department, presented certificates of appreciation to the winning students during a special ceremony at the GVR Karate Academy. Speaking at the event, Dr. Mishra underscored the significance of self-defense education, particularly for girls, given recent incidents of violence against women. She emphasized the importance of holistic development in children, encouraging them to excel in both academics and sports. Dr. Mishra also urged parents to support their children’s talents.
The event was attended by GVR Karate Academy Director Dr. GS Gopal Reddy, along with Narsingh Rao, Karim, students, and parents. Dr. Mishra praised the academy for nurturing such exceptional talent and contributing to society’s well-being.
