Telangana Government Announces Free Power Supply to Educational Institutions

Hyderabad, September 5, 2024: In a significant move aimed at promoting quality education, the Government of Telangana has issued orders to provide free power supply to all government educational institutions across the state. This initiative, detailed in G.O. Ms. No. 20 issued by the Energy Department on September 5, 2024, is set to be implemented immediately.

According to the order, the Telangana State Power Distribution Companies (TG DISCOMS) will create an online portal to manage the scheme. Each government educational institution will have access to the portal, allowing them to track power consumption and billing details. The key points of the implementation are as follows:

  1. Online Portal: TG DISCOMS will develop a platform where institutions can access their electricity consumption data. Login credentials will be provided to the concerned departments overseeing these institutions.
  2. Finalization of Institutions: Secretaries of the respective departments will compile a list of institutions to be covered under the scheme and upload it onto the portal.
  3. Monthly Billing: Each institution will receive a monthly bill, which will be visible online. A hard copy will also be provided to the institution’s in-charge, detailing the electricity consumption and the value of the bill.
  4. Data Reports: The portal will generate detailed reports on power usage, billing history, payments, and balances. These reports can be viewed by institution, mandal, or district.
  5. Integration with Finance Department: The portal will be linked to the Finance Department to facilitate payments using the budget provision allocated for this purpose.

This order was issued with the concurrence of the Finance Department under U.O. No. 1212/124/A2/EBS.II/2024, dated August 22, 2024.

The initiative is expected to ease the financial burden on educational institutions and support the government’s goal of enhancing educational standards in Telangana.

The order was issued by Mr. D. Ronald Rose, Secretary to the Government of Telangana.
