Mumbai, September 5 – Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, described the Dharavi redevelopment project as a mission to restore dignity for more than 1 million residents and create a sustainable living ecosystem. Speaking at Jai Hind College on Teachers’ Day, Adani outlined the ambitious plans to transform the world’s largest slum over the next decade.

“This is not just a redevelopment project but a mission to provide dignity of living to its over one million residents, while building an unmatched ecosystem of sustainable living and innovation in the heart of Mumbai,” Adani said.

Dharavi, which spans just over 2.39 square kilometers, is the focus of a $3 billion redevelopment project led by the Adani Group. The project will provide each tenement holder with a 350-square-foot house, offering 17% more space than other Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) schemes in Mumbai.

Adani emphasized that it is the approach to challenges, not victories, that defines success. “Over the years, we have assembled leaders willing to venture into the unknown,” he remarked, highlighting the group’s commitment to tackling complex projects.

The Dharavi redevelopment project has gained strong support from local residents, following the state government’s survey, which began on March 18. So far, over 11,000 tenements have been surveyed through door-to-door visits. Several NGOs working in Dharavi have also pledged their support for the project. The survey is being conducted by the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Ltd (DRPPL), a joint venture between the Maharashtra government and the Adani Group, in coordination with the DRP/SRA of the state government.

Adani’s remarks underscore the group’s commitment to creating a new future for Dharavi’s residents while promoting innovation and sustainability in Mumbai’s urban landscape.
