The parents of the woman junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, who tragically died, accused the Kolkata Police on Sunday of attempting to destroy evidence since the case began.

“The government, administration, and the police have not cooperated with us from the start. The police even tried to destroy evidence. I urge that mass protests continue until we achieve justice,” the victim’s mother said while participating in a protest march by members of the medical community, from Sealdah to Esplanade.

The victim’s father, who also joined the protest rally, expressed that the widespread protests have given him courage and hope that justice will be served. “I request everyone to stand by us. I know justice will not come easily, but we must fight for it. The people are our main source of strength,” he stated.

The victim’s aunt echoed similar sentiments, suggesting that the protest slogan be changed from “We want justice” to “We demand justice.”

Earlier, on September 4, while joining the protesting junior doctors at R.G. Kar Medical College, the victim’s father accused Kolkata Police of deliberately delaying the registration of an FIR. He claimed that an officer tried to convince them to settle the matter in exchange for money. He further alleged that another officer was misleading the public with false media statements, even after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had taken over the case.

A crucial hearing on the case, involving allegations of rape and murder, is scheduled in the Supreme Court on September 9, where the CBI is expected to present its progress report.
