DCP Crimes K. Narasimha, IPS, Commends Cyberabad Police for Successful Mobile Recovery

Hyberabad, October 23, 2024: In a significant breakthrough, the Cyberabad Police, led by DCP Crimes K. Narasimha, IPS, have recovered 800 stolen and lost mobile phones over the past 35 days. The Central Crime Station (CCS), IT Cell, and Social Media teams worked in coordination, utilizing the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to trace and recover the phones, which have an estimated value of ₹2.40 crore. The recovered phones were handed over to their rightful owners in a formal event held at the Cyberabad Commissionerate Main Conference Hall today.

DCP Crimes K. Narasimha, IPS, expressed pride in the team’s success, stating, “In the last 35 days, the Cyberabad Police have recovered 800 mobile phones. Of these, 135 were recovered by Madhapur CCS, 140 by Balanagar CCS, 101 by Medchal CCS, 133 by Rajendranagar CCS, 72 by Shamshabad CCS, 105 by the Medchal Zone, and 101 by the IT Cell.”

The DCP also took the opportunity to educate the public on the risks of buying or selling stolen goods, reminding them that it is a punishable offense. He urged people to protect their belongings and avoid carelessness. “Cyber crimes are increasing, and fraudsters are employing tactics such as inappropriate video calls to extort money,” he warned. He also alerted the public about UPI-related frauds and advised caution when handling mobile devices, especially regarding suspicious links.

Highlighting the significance of mobile phones in daily life, he said, “Mobile phones hold sensitive information and personal memories. Thieves are relentless, but we are equally committed to retrieving these devices. Despite high literacy levels, many are unaware of how to prevent stolen mobile phones from being misused.”

DCP Narasimha encouraged the public to report lost or stolen phones either at their nearest police station or through the CEIR portal, available nationwide. He emphasized that using the CEIR portal can prevent the misuse of stolen phones and facilitate quicker recovery. For cyber crimes, citizens were urged to dial 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in to file complaints promptly after incidents.

Several individuals who received their recovered phones at the event expressed their gratitude to the Cyberabad Police for their swift action in retrieving their devices.

DCP Narasimha also commended the contributions of the Crime Criminal Record Bureau (CCRB), ACP Crimes Kalinga Rao, CCS ACP K. Shashank Reddy, IT Cell Inspector Jagadeeshwar, Rajendranagar CCS Inspector Sanjay Kumar, Shamshabad CCS Inspector Pavan, Balanagar CCS Inspector Raju, Medchal CCS Inspector Narasimha, Medchal DI Venkat Reddy, along with ASIs, Head Constables, Women Police Constables, and the IT Cell and CCS teams, for their dedicated efforts in the recovery operation.
