Telangana CM Revanth Reddy Seeks Central Support for Key Projects During Delhi Visit

New Delhi, November 26, 2024: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, during his visit to the national capital, made a strong pitch for the approval of critical infrastructure projects to bolster Telangana’s development. In meetings with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, the CM highlighted the state’s strategic needs, focusing on enhancing connectivity and honoring historical landmarks.

Request for Defence Land to Develop Gandhi Sarovar

In his meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy requested the transfer of 222.27 acres of defence land located at Bapu Ghat in Hyderabad for the development of Gandhi Sarovar, a proposed urban reservoir. The project is envisioned as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and a vital addition to Hyderabad’s ecological and cultural infrastructure. The CM emphasized that this project would transform the area into a hub for civic and recreational activities while preserving its historical significance.

Four New Airports for Telangana

In his discussions with Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, the Chief Minister underscored the pressing need for new airports in the state, stating that improved connectivity is pivotal to Telangana’s economic growth and accessibility. The CM advocated for the following proposals:

1. Mamnoor Airport, Warangal:
The Chief Minister pointed out that Rs. 205 crore has already been allocated for the acquisition of land for Mamnoor Airport. He urged the Centre to expedite necessary permissions, noting that the airport would serve as a key economic and logistic hub for Warangal, one of Telangana’s rapidly growing cities.

2. Paloncha Airport, Bhadradri Kothagudem District:
The state government has identified 950 acres of suitable land for this project, replacing a previously proposed site deemed unsuitable. The CM argued that the airport would improve accessibility to Bhadradri Kothagudem district, a region rich in natural resources and cultural significance.

3. Antargam Airport, Peddapalli District:
Revanth Reddy highlighted the identification of 591.24 acres of alternative land for an airport at Antargam. This proposal addresses earlier challenges with unsuitable land in Peddapalli district. The CM stressed that the airport would enhance connectivity in the northern parts of Telangana, facilitating economic opportunities.

4. Adilabad Airport:
The Chief Minister proposed the acquisition of an additional 249.82 acres to complement the 369.50 acres already under the Indian Air Force in Adilabad district. He emphasized the strategic importance of this airport in boosting trade and tourism in the region.

Strategic Importance of Projects

During his interactions, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted how these projects align with Telangana’s vision of sustainable development and regional connectivity. He stated that new airports would not only reduce travel time for citizens but also attract investments, promote tourism, and stimulate industrial growth in their respective regions.

The Chief Minister also stressed the ecological and cultural importance of developing Gandhi Sarovar, which would serve as both a historical tribute and an urban green space.

Appeal for Central Cooperation

Revanth Reddy urged the Union Government to recognize the strategic and socio-economic significance of these projects and provide timely approvals. “Telangana has been at the forefront of implementing transformative infrastructure projects. With the Centre’s cooperation, we aim to accelerate growth and make the state a model for sustainable development,” the CM said.

The Chief Minister’s visit is part of his broader strategy to strengthen collaboration with the Union Government and bring the state’s developmental aspirations to fruition.
