MLC Kavitha Unveils Explosive Documents, Exposing Congress Deceit on Musi River Project

BRS Leader Accuses Congress of Misleading Telangana on Musi Riverfront Development

Hyderabad, December 18,2024: In a scathing attack on the Congress government in Telangana, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha exposed what she called blatant lies and contradictions surrounding the Musi River Beautification Project. Speaking to the media, Kavitha accused the Congress government of misleading the public, the legislature, and key stakeholders about the project’s intent, funding, and progress.

Kavitha revealed that the Congress government had submitted a proposal to the World Bank on September 19, 2024, stating that Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the Musi Riverfront Development Project were ready. However, on October 4, the government issued a Government Order (GO) allocating ₹160 crore to a consortium comprising Meinhardt Consultancies, Cushman & Wakefield India, and RIOS Design Studios for preparing the DPR. Shockingly, during the Telangana Assembly session on December 17, the government denied the existence of any DPR, exposing glaring contradictions in its statements.

“Why is the Congress government deceiving the people of Telangana? Why the secrecy surrounding the project and its funding?” BRS MLC Kavitha questioned. She accused the government of providing false information at every stage—claiming no DPR existed in the Assembly while stating otherwise in official communications to the World Bank. Kavitha also alleged that the government was attempting to secure a ₹4,100 crore loan from the World Bank for the Musi Riverfront Development Project, deceptively referring to it as a “rejuvenation project” in public forums.

Kavitha further criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for pushing a project estimated to cost ₹1.5 lakh crore—more than 50% higher than the Ganga River Cleaning Project—without allocating even 1% of the required budget. She alleged that the project’s real intent was to displace over 16,000 families living along the Musi River to make way for commercial ventures, such as malls and real estate developments, rather than focusing on public welfare or ecological restoration.

“This is a government built on lies and hypocrisy,” Kavitha said. “Under BRS rule, Telangana never sought foreign loans for major projects, protecting the state’s resources. But within a year of Congress taking power, they are ready to mortgage Telangana’s future to foreign institutions. Who are they serving—Telangana’s people or real estate giants?”

The BRS leader also pointed out that the Congress government had submitted a separate proposal to the Centre seeking ₹14,000 crore for the project, further exposing the lack of consistency and transparency in its actions. She accused the government of prioritizing commercial interests over the welfare of displaced families and demanded clarity on the land acquisition plans along the 55-km stretch of the river.

Kavitha called for immediate public consultation and transparency regarding the project. She warned the government that failure to disclose the DPR and funding details would lead to a privilege motion being filed in the Assembly. “This government must explain why contradictory statements are being made to the Legislature, the Centre, the World Bank, and the people of Telangana. Whose interests are being prioritized—public welfare or corporate profits?”

Concluding her remarks, MLC Kavitha reaffirmed the BRS’s commitment to standing with the people living along the Musi River. She vowed to fight any attempts to displace families without fair compensation and accused the Congress government of betraying the trust of Telangana’s citizens.

“This is not development; it is deception. We will not allow the Congress government to mortgage the future of Hyderabad or the rights of its people,” she said.
