
New Hand Baggage Policy Announced by BCAS: Key Guidelines for Air Travelers
In response to growing passenger traffic at airport security checkpoints, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has introduced a new hand baggage policy that all air travelers must adhere to. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has joined hands with BCAS to tighten rules, compelling airlines to implement the revised regulations.
Key Highlights of the Policy

Single Hand Baggage Rule: Passengers on both domestic and international flights are now allowed to carry only one piece of hand luggage on board. Additional luggage must be checked in.
Weight Limits:
Economy and Premium Economy: Maximum weight of 7 kg.
First and Business Class: Maximum weight of 10 kg.
Dimensions: The hand baggage must adhere to the following dimensions:
Height: 55 cm
Length: 40 cm
Width: 20 cm
Circumference: Not exceeding 115 cm.

Air India’s Specific Guidelines
Air India has provided detailed instructions for passengers in different travel classes:
Economy Class: Hand baggage limit is 7 kg.
Premium Economy Class: Limit is 10 kg.
First or Business Class: Limit is 12 kg.
However, for tickets booked before May 2, 2024, Air India is offering flexibility in hand baggage weight limits.
Economy Class: Up to 8 kg.
Premium Economy Class: Up to 10 kg.
First or Business Class: Up to 12 kg.
Passengers exceeding the specified weight or dimensions will incur additional charges.
Travelers are advised to review the updated baggage guidelines carefully before heading to the airport to avoid inconvenience.
