Amazon to Invest ₹60,000 Crore in Telangana: Hyderabad Emerges as India’s Data Centre Hub
Davos, January 23,2025: In a landmark achievement for Telangana, Chief Minister Shri A. Revanth Reddy and IT & Industries Minister Shri D. Sridhar Babu secured the biggest investment deal at the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2025 in Davos. Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, announced an investment of ₹60,000 crore to expand its data centre infrastructure in the Hyderabad region.
The announcement came following discussions between Telangana’s delegation and AWS executives, led by Michael Punke, Vice President of Global Public Policy at AWS. Telangana’s proactive policies, investor-friendly environment, and strategic location were key factors influencing AWS’s decision to deepen its investment in the state.
This significant expansion will bolster AWS’s Hyderabad region, which is already a vital part of its operations in India. The new data centres will play a pivotal role in supporting the growth of AWS cloud services, including advancements in artificial intelligence.
Previous Investments and Future Commitments
AWS had earlier committed $4.4 billion by 2030 to develop its cloud infrastructure in Telangana. Currently, the company operates three data centres in the state with an investment of $1 billion. These centres are fully operational and have significantly contributed to Telangana’s digital economy.
As part of its expansion plans, AWS has sought additional land from the state government, which has been approved. This move underscores Amazon’s commitment to supporting Telangana’s digital ambitions and its vision of becoming a global leader in the cloud and AI sectors.

Hailing the investment, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy stated, “We are delighted by the confidence that global giants like Amazon have shown in Telangana. IT & Industries Minister Shri D. Sridhar Babu highlighted the importance of the agreement, stating, “Hyderabad is now firmly established as the undisputed hub for data centres in India. This investment solidifies our position as a leader in the digital and IT sectors.”
