New Delhi, Feb 17: In a significant diplomatic gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally welcomed the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, at Palam Air Force Station on Monday evening. The warm embrace between the two leaders underscored the deep-rooted friendship between India and Qatar.

“A special gesture for a special friend! PM Narendra Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at the airport, as he arrived in New Delhi on his second State visit to India. The visit will further strengthen the bonds of India-Qatar partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted on X.

Strengthening India-Qatar Bilateral Ties

Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani is on a two-day state visit to India at the invitation of PM Modi. This marks his second visit, the first being in March 2015. Accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, senior officials, and business leaders, the visit aims to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, investment, and technology.

On Tuesday, the Amir will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan before holding crucial discussions with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. He is also scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a state banquet in his honor.

India-Qatar Relations: A Growing Strategic Partnership

The MEA highlighted the robust ties between India and Qatar, spanning trade, investment, energy, technology, and cultural exchanges. With over 800,000 Indian expatriates forming the largest foreign community in Qatar, their contributions to Qatar’s development are widely recognized.

“The visit of His Highness the Amir will provide further momentum to our growing multifaceted partnership,” the MEA stated.

Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani’s visit is expected to further cement the strategic and economic cooperation between the two nations, fostering deeper collaboration across multiple sectors.
