Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, aged 78, was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on Thursday morning, February 20, 2025, due to stomach-related issues. Hospital sources have indicated that her condition is stable, and she is expected to be discharged by Friday.

Sonia Gandhi is currently under the care of Dr. Samiran Nundy, a distinguished gastrointestinal surgeon and Emeritus Consultant in the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Dr. Nundy has an extensive medical background, having previously served as the head of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. He is also the founder editor of the National Medical Journal of India and Tropical Gastroenterology.

This is not the first time Sonia Gandhi has sought medical attention at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. In September 2023, she was admitted for fever-like symptoms but was discharged after a brief stay.

The hospital’s Board of Management Chairman, Dr. Ajay Swaroop, has stated that there is no major concern regarding her health. She is expected to be discharged by Friday morning.

Sonia Gandhi, who turned 78 in December 2024, continues to play an active role in Indian politics as the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party. Her son, Rahul Gandhi, and daughter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, are also prominent figures in the party.

The Congress Party has not yet released an official statement regarding her hospitalization. Supporters and party members are hopeful for her swift recovery and return to public life.
