Telangana MLC Elections: Voter Guidelines to Ensure Valid Votes
Hyderabad, February 27, 2025: As Telangana conducts the biennial elections for the Legislative Council’s Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies today, it’s crucial for voters to adhere to the prescribed voting procedures to ensure their votes are counted.

Key Voting Instructions:
- Use of Numerical Preferences:
- On the ballot paper, mark your preferences using only Arabic numerals: 1, 2, 3, etc.
- Avoid using Roman numerals (I, II, III) or writing numbers in words (e.g., “one,” “two”) in any language, as this will render your vote invalid.
- Sequential Numbering:
- If you choose to rank multiple candidates, ensure the numbers are in consecutive order starting from 1.
- For example, marking 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 is valid.
- However, if you omit a number (e.g., 1, 2, 4, 5, 6) or start from a number other than 1 (e.g., 2, 3, 4, 5, 6), your vote will be invalid.
- Unique Preferences:
- Assign each preference number to only one candidate.
- Do not assign the same number to multiple candidates or multiple numbers to a single candidate.
- For instance, writing 1, 2 for the same candidate is invalid.
- Avoid Additional Marks:
- Do not place ticks, crosses, signatures, or any other marks on the ballot paper.
- Such markings can lead to the invalidation of your vote.

By meticulously following these guidelines, voters can ensure their votes are valid and contribute to the democratic process. For more detailed information, refer to the official instructions provided by the Chief Electoral Officer of Telangana.
