Cadaver Dogs from Kerala Deployed in SLBC Tunnel Rescue Mission
Nagar Kurnool, March 7: In a significant move to aid the ongoing rescue operations at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel, the Telangana authorities have deployed two highly trained cadaver dogs to help locate the eight workers trapped inside.
These specialized search dogs, along with their handlers, were airlifted from Kerala to Nagar Kurnool in an Indian Air Force helicopter as part of intensified efforts to trace the missing workers.
Role of Cadaver Dogs in Search Operations
Cadaver dogs are specially trained to detect human remains, whether buried, decomposed, or submerged in water. Their acute sense of smell enables them to pick up faint odors that are otherwise undetectable to humans.
- These dogs are trained to work in various terrains, including land and water, making them invaluable assets in search and rescue operations.
- Their effectiveness depends on rigorous training, allowing them to detect even the slightest traces of human decomposition.
- In past disasters and search missions worldwide, cadaver dogs have played a critical role in locating victims and aiding recovery efforts.

Intensified Rescue Efforts
With time running out, Telangana authorities are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to locate and recover the missing workers. The deployment of cadaver dogs, along with the use of advanced robotics and specialized rescue teams, underscores the urgency and complexity of the operation.
Officials are hopeful that the combined efforts of disaster management teams, robotics experts, and trained search dogs will lead to a breakthrough in the rescue mission.
