Mahabubnagar: 108 Ambulance Staff Performs CPR and Saves Newborn’s Life

Mahabubnagar, March 10, 2025 – In a remarkable display of quick thinking and medical expertise, a newborn baby who was unresponsive at birth was miraculously saved by 108 Ambulance staff in Narayanpet district. The heroic effort by Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Rajkumar and nurse Kavitha ensured that the infant, who showed no signs of life immediately after birth, survived against the odds.

A Mother’s Joy Turns to Fear

In the early hours of Monday, Akhila, a resident of Raikod village in Narva mandal, arrived at Narva Government Hospital for her first delivery. At 5:30 AM, she gave birth to a baby boy. However, the moment of joy quickly turned into a crisis when the newborn showed no signs of movement, did not cry, and appeared lifeless.

Doctors at the hospital suspected that the baby had ingested amniotic fluid, causing respiratory distress. Realizing the severity of the situation, nurse Kavitha on duty immediately called for 108 Ambulance services, seeking urgent medical intervention.

The Race Against Time Begins

Within minutes, an ambulance arrived, and EMT Rajkumar assessed the newborn’s condition. While the baby was alive, his condition was extremely critical. With no time to lose, Rajkumar contacted Mahabubnagar District Hospital pediatrician Dr. Shiva, who provided immediate instructions over the phone.

Following the doctor’s advice, Rajkumar began performing CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) on the infant right inside the ambulance, while also administering oxygen to support the baby’s fragile condition. As the ambulance rushed towards Mahabubnagar District Hospital, a miracle occurred near Devarakadra – the baby started to move! This moment brought a wave of relief to the medical team, who had been working tirelessly to keep the newborn alive.

A Happy Ending at Mahabubnagar Hospital

By 6:30 AM, the ambulance reached Mahabubnagar District Hospital, where pediatrician Dr. Mamata and her team took over. The baby received further treatment, and after close monitoring, was declared completely healthy—a joyous conclusion to what could have been a devastating tragedy.

Heroes Acknowledged for Their Brave Efforts

The incredible efforts of EMT Rajkumar and nurse Kavitha did not go unnoticed. Hospital authorities, including the Superintendent, doctors, and medical staff, congratulated the 108 ambulance team for their swift response and life-saving actions.

This incident is yet another testament to the critical role of 108 emergency medical services, highlighting how timely intervention can make the difference between life and death.

For Akhila and her family, what started as a terrifying ordeal ended with gratitude and relief—thanks to the dedicated medical staff who refused to give up on the newborn’s life.
