India to Host Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025 in Patna from March 20

Hyderabad, March 14: India is set to host the prestigious Sepak Takraw World Cup 2025, which will take place from March 20 to 25 at the Pataliputra Indoor Stadium in Patna, Bihar. The event will witness participation from men’s and women’s teams representing 20 countries, marking a significant milestone in the growing popularity of Sepak Takraw in India.

Announcing the details at a press conference in Hyderabad on Friday, Dr. S. R. Premraj, Vice President of the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTF) and President of the Sepak Takraw Federation of India (STFI), along with Perika Suresh Kumar, All India Secretary and Telangana State President of the Sepak Takraw Association, emphasized the importance of this global tournament in promoting the sport across the country.

A Platform for International Excellence

Dr. Premraj highlighted that the World Cup will feature competitions in four categoriesTeam Event, Single Event, Double Event, and Quad Event—providing athletes an opportunity to showcase their skills on an international platform. He stated that this tournament is expected to be a turning point for Sepak Takraw in India, attracting more young players to the sport and fostering a competitive spirit among them.

“This event is not only about competition but also about strengthening international cooperation in sports. The growing recognition of Sepak Takraw in India is evident with this World Cup, and we are confident that it will leave a lasting impact on the development of the sport in the country,” Dr. Premraj said.

Government Support and Grand Inauguration

Perika Suresh Kumar expressed gratitude to the central and state governments for their support in organizing the championship. He emphasized that hosting an event of such magnitude is a matter of national pride and will inspire many young athletes to take up Sepak Takraw professionally.

He further announced that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be the Chief Guest at the opening ceremony, and the event will also be attended by several Union Ministers, Members of Parliament, and other dignitaries. The tournament is being jointly organized by the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTF) and the Sepak Takraw Federation of India (STFI).

Indian Officials and Representatives at the Event

The press conference was attended by several key figures in the Sepak Takraw fraternity, including ISTF Vice President and STFI President Dr. S. R. Premraj, STFI National Secretary and Telangana State President Perika Suresh Kumar, Vice President B. Jaganath Swamy, Telangana Olympic Association General Secretary Baburam Sagar, and 38th National Games Deputy Chief K. Maheshwar, among others.

The officials reaffirmed their commitment to popularizing Sepak Takraw in India and ensuring that the World Cup 2025 is a grand success, setting new benchmarks for the sport at the global level.

With India hosting this premier event, Sepak Takraw is set to gain greater prominence, further strengthening the country’s reputation in international sports.
